Afternoon Classics - Dvorak
First Baptist Church, 2:00 pm
Dvorak was one of several composers from the Romantic era who let his cultural roots shine through his music. Although the structure of his music follows generally along classical lines, his rhythms and melodies seem to embody the folk traditions of his native Czechoslovakia and surrounding regions.
American pianist Simone Dinnerstein has fast been gaining international attention since making a triumphant New York recital debut at Carnegie Hall’s Weill Recital Hall in 2005, performing Bach’s Goldberg Variations.

Highlights of her 2008-2009 season include a sold-out recital at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, a reappearance at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, and a recital at Wigmore Hall. Recent performances include recitals at the Aspen and Ravinia Music Festivals, Lincoln Center’s Great Performers Series, the Stuttgart Bach Festival, the Bremen Music Festival with Kristjan Järvi’s ‘Absolute Ensemble’, and tours with the Dresden Philharmonic, New Jersey Symphony Orchestra and Czech Philharmonic Orchestras.

Ms. Dinnerstein graduated from The Juilliard School, and lives in Brooklyn, New York with her husband and son.

The American Contemporary Music Ensemble (ACME) is dedicated to the outstanding performance of contemporary masterworks of the 20th and 21st centuries. With Artistic Director and cellist Clarice Jensen at the helm, ACME programs are both avant-garde and archetypal and the dynamic ensemble's concerts are a unique blend of intelligent performance and passionate music making. Time Out New York reports, "ACME was causing quite a stir in the crowded New York new-music scene . . . polished and playful, its programs are a broad-minded mix of rigor and eclecticism."

Since its first New York concert season in 2004, the ensemble has performed works by John Adams, Louis Andriessen, John Cage, Elliott Carter, George Crumb, Jacob Druckman, Charles Ives, Donald Martino, Olivier Messiaen, Nico Muhly, Steve Reich, Terry Riley, Frederic Rzewski, Ryan Streber, Toru Takemitsu, Kevin Volans, Edgar Varese, Charles Wuorinen, and Iannis Xenakis.
